Nice weather...23rd Oct I hope!

I took my panniers for a ride today (I needed them for ballast!), to see if they'd rattle off. I got a krauser rack from Tardme for $40 - minus bolts so this is a real bodge job to hold it on.

Liking the panniers under the seat rather than over as it puts the weight a lot lower and makes it more stable.

  1. Whats with the sheep skin, that will look great with a bit of dirt and dust on it.

Bags look good, I am sure we are not going to need all the capacity, will probably just travel as I did when we did the highway a few weeks back, with the pack. Took all sorts, wine and nibbles included and still spare space.

What sort of range do you get on a tank of gas on the 250, we are going to need to plan fuel stops especially for Si and Lynn, i think they are around the 180 to 200 km from a tank ( thats open road), I can get 500 on open road. We will need to make sure we check fuel stops, especially when we leave stratford, there's no gas for 150km (if you go to Taumarauni), further if you go Ohura and Mangitapopo, the next gas is Te Kuiti I think. Planning !

  2. I get 250-280ish (9 litre) but will take a 5L also just to be on safe side. That way if anyone gets caught short we're sorted.

No sheep were harmed in the making of this post, several where slightly traumatised however
